Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – A new shoe store opened in Detroit Lakes on May 12.
Shoe Sensation, an Indiana-based foot apparel retail chain, hosted its official grand opening on Friday at their location off the Highway 10 frontage road, near the Walmart in Detroit Lakes.
Eddie Price, chief financial officer for Shoe Sensation, said their chain offers all the major brands of footwear, but also realize smaller cities, like Detroit Lakes, can be a vital retail location for neighboring towns with populations of less than 1,000.
“We’re 231 stores in the Midwest in towns like Detroit Lakes,” said Price.
He continued: “Our mission is to bring branded footwear to that small rural community. And communities where you are the shopping area for a lot of dotted little towns around. I grew up in a town of 600 people and we went to towns like Detroit Lakes to do our shopping. We didn’t go into Louisville. We didn’t go into New Albany or Jeffersonville because we didn’t want to fight the crowds. You are a different customer, right?”
The store manager, Vickie Ellingson, said setting up the shoe store was a huge undertaking.
“I think it took us about two-and-a-half weeks to unload all the shoes and then we had to stack them in order and put them on the walls to fit,” said Ellingson. “It’s exciting because Detroit Lakes needs a shoe store. With some of the other businesses having to close, it’s nice to see a new store come up that is just selling shoes.”
The store will be open seven days a week and their hours of operation, as well as, promotional sale items can be found on their website.
