Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Laker girls basketball team fell on their homecourt to Perham on Thursday night, losing 65-43. With the loss, the Lakers saw their 6-game winning streak come to an end as Perham improved their record to 11-6 on the season.
Perham had four players in double figures, with Katie Johnson leading her team with 15 points. Johnson also accomplished a career milestone at the Ralph Anderson Gymnasium on Thursday as she scored the 1,000th point of her career.
The Lakers were led by Alex Bettcher in the scoring department, who finished the game with 17 points.
The loss drops Detroit Lakes record to 10-5 on the season, and they will look to rebound on Saturday afternoon when they face off against a section opponent in Sauk Rapids-Rice. You can listen to the game on Saturday on KDLM with pregame coverage beginning at 1:45 PM.

Wrestling: The Laker wrestling team began their playoffs after a long pause due to COVID-19 protocols. Detroit Lakes entered the playoffs as the #3 seed in Section 8AA and competed at Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus. The Lakers first took the mats against #6 Alexandria and defeated the Cardinals 48-21. The Lakers then matched up with #2 Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus and fell 37-27. Pequot Lakes will matchup with #1 Thief River Falls tomorrow night. Thief River advanced to the section championship after defeating #4 Perham 37-30.
Boys Basketball: The Lakers fell on the road to the Pequot Lakes Patriots on Thursday night 68-35. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 4-3 in the Mid-State Conference and are now 8-6 overall. Detroit Lakes will return to the court on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Barnesville to take on the Trojans at 2:30 PM.
Boys Hockey: Detroit Lakes crushed Wadena-Deer Creek at the Kent Freeman Arena on Thursday night 7-0. The Lakers outshot the Wolverines 46-18 on their way to their ninth win of the season. Detroit Lakes is now 9-8 overall and will wrap up the regular season on Monday when they host Crookston. You can hear Monday’s game on KDLM with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 PM.
