PARK RAPIDS, MN (KDLM) – Luke Hartung, a senior at Park Rapids High School, has been named runner-up in the 2023 Junior Duck Stamp contest, which is held annually by the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

Hartung, who won the contest in 2022 with his painting of Canadian Geese, took second place with his oil painting of a drake redhead duck boasting a metal band.

Judges deliberated for half an hour before ultimately awarding first place to Ciara Grad from Minnetonka High School, who edged out Hartung by one point.

Kale Johnson of Fergus Falls wrote the State Best of Show Conservation Message – “Learning about wildlife is good, learning how to save it is better.”
Both State Best of Show winners entries will be entered into the National Junior Duck Stamp Contest to be held on Friday April 21, 2023 in Shepherdstown, WV. A panel of 5 judges will judge the top entries submitted by each of the 50 States, D.C., and the U.S. Territories.
