FERGUS FALLS, MN (KDLM) – The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office got a fun in-office surprise on Friday.
Former Minnesota Twins reliever Juan Berenguer, known to most Twins fans by his nickname Senor Smoke, paid a visit to the sheriff’s office, signed autographs for law enforcement, and hung around the office chatting. Berenguer’s father was a police officer in Panama, and it’s not uncommon for Berenguer to make surprise visits to law enforcement agencies in communities that he is visiting.
Berenguer helped anchor the Twins bullpen during their run to the 1987 World Series title. One of his signature moments came in Game Two for that year’s ALCS against Detroit, when he struck out four of the five batters he faced, including striking out the side in the top of the ninth to secure the win.
