Seeds Released For Boys State Basketball Tournament; Alexandria, Border West, DGF, Nevis looking for state championships

(KDLM) – The brackets are set for the State Boys Basketball tournament, which begins Tuesday at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.

In Class A, the Nevis Tigers will represent Section 5A after they beat Barnum 68-54 in last Friday’s section championship game. Nevis will face top-seeded Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at 11 am on Wednesday. Other Class A matchups include Cherry vs 6A champion Border West, New Life Academy vs 8A champion Sacred Heart, and Spring Grove vs Mankato Loyola.

A 50-point performance by Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton senior Owen Leach propelled the Rebels into the state tournament after a 77-67 win over Thief River Falls in the 8AA championship game last Friday. Unseeded DGF drew the three-seed Plainview-Elgin-Millville Bulldogs and will play Tuesday night at 8:00. Other AA matchups include top-seeded Holy Family vs Eden Valley-Watkins, Maple River vs Minnehaha Academy, and Albany vs back-to-back Section 7A champion Pequot Lakes. Pequot Lakes advanced to State with a 77-59 win over Esko last Friday night.

The champions of Section 8AAA Alexandria Cardinals are the five-seed in the Class AAA tournament and will play Mankato East at noon tomorrow. Totino-Grace is the top seed and will play St. Francis, Orono gets Hermantown, and DeLaSalle will face Stewartville.

The Moorhead Spuds bid for back-to-back section 8AAAA titles ended last Friday night, losing to Buffalo 82-65 in the section championship. Matchups in the AAAA tournament are top-seed Park Center vs Andover, Minnetonka vs Eastview, Lakeville North vs Buffalo, and Wayzata vs White Bear Lake.
