Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – Becker County, as well as neighboring counties, is currently in a Winter Weather Advisory until midnight on February 22nd. The Advisory will then shift to a Winter Weather Watch that will be in effect until 6 pm on Thursday.
Forecasters are predicting the Lakes Area could receive up to nine inches of snow when all is said and done. The southern half of the state is expected to take the brunt of the storm, with more than two feet of snow predicted. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph, and temperatures could bottom out at -25 degrees.
Clay, Becker, Barnes, Cass, Ottertail, Mahnomen, and Wadena counties are also affected by weather advisories.
This winter storm is predicted to be one of the top five snow producers in Minnesota’s history.
In the event that travel is necessary, it is essential to carry an extra flashlight, food, and water in the vehicle in case of an emergency.
