HAWLEY, MN (KRCQ/KDLM) – A Saturday afternoon matinee matchup in Hawley featured the Nuggets hosting the Park Rapids Area Panthers in girls basketball with Hawley beating Park Rapids 62-58.

Park Rapids used a 9-0 run to open a double-digit lead in the first half, but the Nuggets battled back to get within five points at the half, 30-25.

The two teams had three ties in the second half, the last one at 51-51. From there the Nuggets went on a 11-7 run to close out the game.

Hawley improves to 11-6 and Park Rapids falls to 7-8.  The Nuggets were led by Senior Anna Steer, who is closing in on 1000 career points, finished with a game-high 28 points. Steer could get her 1000th point when the team travels to Barnesville on February 3rd.

Park Rapids senior Tori Weaver scored her 1,000th career point in the game with a three midway through the second half.

The next Nugget matchup on KRCQ, Friday, February 3rd as the boys basketball team hosts the Breckenridge Cowboys.
