Perham Yellowjackets Sweep Final Two Games of Breakdown Crossover Classic

PERHAM, MN (KDLM/KPRW) – The Breakdown Crossover Classic returned to Perham High School on Saturday. The Perham Yellowjacket basketball teams played the sixth and seventh games of the showcase, with the girls beating Fergus Falls 73-41 and the boys coming from behind to beat Fergus Falls 63-59.

Senior Mya Morris led an offensive attack that saw 13 made three-pointers against the Otters. Morris was 6/6 from beyond the arc and led the Yellowjackets with 18 points. Kennedy Pilgrim (11), Cora Grismer (10), and Kaia Anderson (10) also finished in double-digits for Perham. The Yellowjackets, ranked #4 in Class AA, improved to 11-1 on the season with the win. Their next game is against AAAA school Brainerd at The Hive on Tuesday.

The Perham boys had a little more trouble with Fergus Falls, falling behind early 17-9, and trailing the Otters 30-25 at the half. Aikhem Bethel of Fergus Falls made four three-pointers in the first half to pace the Otters, but Fergus got into foul trouble in the second half, and Perham made 11 of 12 free throws. Perham took a 57-55 lead with about two minutes left then hit big free throws down the stretch to win 63-59. Bethel finished with a game-high 26 points. Alex Ohm of Perham had 17 points and was 11-of-11 from the free-throw line.

All 63 Yellowjacket points came from the starting five: Thompson (21), Ohm (17), Evan Kovash (4), Soran Anderson (11), and Jacob Daniels (10).

Perham gets back in the win column after seeing their 10-game winning streak snapped at DGF on Thursday. The Yellowjackets, currently ranked #5 in Class AA, improve to 11-1 this season. Their next game is at Breckenridge on Tuesday night.
