DETROIT LAKES – Lakes Area residents are encouraged to show their support as the Detroit Lakes National Guard prepares to deploy to Kuwait.
Residents are encouraged to display an American Flag, put a yellow ribbon on your door or hang a supporting message in your window March 12 – 18.
“By decorating Detroit Lakes and supporting the troops it lets them know that you care. Because of COVID restrictions these troops can’t have an in-person deployment ceremony with their families,” Kristin Helmers, Soldier Family Readiness Specialist with the National Guard said.
The city of Detroit Lakes plans to hang yellow ribbons along Washington Ave. leading up to the armory and children from area schools are being encouraged to write letters of support that will be given to area troops before they leave.
The Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce is giving away free yellow ribbon window clings and magnets while supplies last.
Nearly 1,100 Soldiers from the Minnesota National Guard’s Brainerd-based 1-194th Armor Regiment will deploy in support of Operation Spartan Shield through Spring of 2022.
