(KDLM/KPRW) – The Minnesota State High School League has released the brackets for the 2022 Section Volleyball tournaments, which are set to begin on Monday, October 24th.
Section 6A (Defending Section Champion: Breckenridge): Section 6A will kick off its tournament on Monday night. On the North side of the bracket, #8 Rothsay is hosting #9 Battle Lake at 7:00. #7 NCE/U-H will play #10 Lake Park-Audubon. On the South side, #9 Hancock will play at #8 Wheaton-Herman-Norcross, and #10 Ashby will travel to #7 Ortonville. The 22-5 Henning Hornets are the #1 seed in the North. They’ll play the winner of Rothsay and Battle Lake on Wednesday night. Hillcrest Lutheran Academy is the #2 seed and gets the winner of NCE/U-H and Lake Park-Audubon. #3 Breckenridge plays #6 Underwood, and #4 Park Christian will play #5 New York Mills. Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa is the top seed on the South side of the bracket. They’ll play the winner of Wheaton-Herman-Norcross and Ortonville. The two-seed goes to Brandon-Evansville, who will host either Ortonville or Ashby on Wednesday. #4 Parkers Prairie will host #5 KMS, and #6 Benson goes to #3 Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley.
Section 8A (Defending Section Champion: Badger-Greenbush-Middle River): The 8A tournament also begins on Monday, with #8 Clearbrook-Gonvick playing #9 Blackduck and #7 Red Lake County playing #10 Win-E-Mac. The 24-4 Fosston Greyhounds are the number-one seed in Section 8A East and get a first-round bye. Fosston lost to West-champion BGMR in the Section Finals last year. Fosston will play the winner of Clearbrook-Gonvick and Blackduck on Thursday night. #2 Ada-Borup-West will play the winner of Red Lake County and Win-E-Mac. #3 Fertile-Beltrami and #6 Mahnomen-Waubun and #4 Bagley and #5 Northome/Kelliher will also play on Thursday.
Section 6AA (Defending Section Champion: Sauk Center): The defending Class AA State Champion Sauk Center Mainstreeters get the top seed in the Section 6AA tournament, which begins on Tuesday. The 24-2 Mainstreeters, who have won 22 consecutive matches, get a first-round bye and will play the winner of #8 Melrose and #9 Staples-Motley on Thursday night. Pequot Lakes, also 24-2, gets the two-seed and gets Tuesday night off. They’ll play the winner of #7 Foley and #10 Holdingford. Wadena-Deer Creek is the three-seed and will host #14 Pillager on Tuesday night. The winner of WDC and Pillager will play the winner of #6 Albany and #11 Osakis. #4 St. Cloud Cathedral will play #13 Royalton on Tuesday, November 1st. The winner of that matchup will play the winner of #5 Milaca and #12 Pierz.
Section 8AA (Defending Section Champion: Hawley): The Section 8AA tournament will start on Wednesday. The 13-14 Roseau Rams were awarded the top seed in the North bracket after finishing 8-2 in the section. They’ll play #8 Red Lake. The winner of that matchup will play the winner of #4 Park Rapids and #5 Warroad. Thief River Falls gets the two seed in the North. They’ll play #7 Crookston. #3 East Grand Forks will host #6 Menahga. On the south side of the bracket, the 17-9 Barnesville Trojans get the top seed and get a Wednesday bye. They’ll host the winner of #4 Pelican Rapids and #5 Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Friday night. Perham is the two seed in the south and will host #7 Frazee. The winner of that matchup will play the winner of #3 Hawley and #6 Fergus Falls.
Section 8AAA (Defending Champion: Sauk Rapids-Rice): The 18-4 Detroit Lakes Lakers will be the number-one seed when the Section 8AAA tournament begins on Thursday. They will host #8 St. Cloud Apollo in a rematch of the regular season finale at 7:00. The winner of Detroit Lakes and St. Cloud Apollo will play the winner of #4 Sauk Rapids-Rice and #5 St. Cloud Tech. Rocori is the #2 seed and will play #7 Becker. #3 Alexandria will host #6 Little Falls.

Section 8AAAA (Defending Champion: Rogers): The #8 Moorhead Spuds will have an uphill battle in the 8AAAA playoffs, drawing #1-seed Rogers at 6:00 on Thursday. #4 Sartell will host #5 Elk River. #7 Brainerd will play at #2 STMA, and #3 Buffalo will host #6 Bemidji.
