Essentia Health Plans ‘Breast Event of the Year’

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Lakes Area women are gearing up for the ‘Breast Event of the Year’.

Essentia Health will be holding their VIPink event on Thursday from 5-7:30 p.m. at Essentia Health Detroit Lakes to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness month.

The event will feature walk-in mammograms, tastings of healthy treats and recipes, opportunities to learn about how to lower the risk of cancers and activities including a make and take floral arrangement station.

Doctor Ben Smith at Essentia Health says one of the main goals of the event is to highlight early detection of breast cancer, “If we can identify breast cancer that is confined to the breast, the five year survival is 99%, if we unfortunately don’t find cancer is confined to the breast, lets say cancer has spread throughout the body the five year survival drops to about 30%.”
