Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – Freshman from five area high schools were at the Lakeshirts Fieldhouse in Detroit Lakes for the fifth-annual Freshman Career Expo on Wednesday, October 12th. Over 75 Lakes Area businesses were on hand representing manufacturing, health care, wildlife conservation, media and graphic design, construction, law enforcement, education, and more.
“It’s a great event to get these kids to start thinking about what they want their career to be,” said Detroit Lakes high school teacher Aaron Swenson. “They find things that they weren’t necessarily interested in before, or they find something that they’re really good at. It’s a great way to expose them to that and see what’s out there.”
It was the first time the event had happened since the fall of 2019, as it was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic and in 2021 because of inclement weather.
Freshman students from Detroit Lakes, Frazee, Lake Park-Audubon, Waubun, and Pelican Rapids attended the expo.
