Justin Wegleitner Named 8AA Boys Soccer Coach of the Year

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes Laker boys soccer coach Justin Wegleitner was named Section 8AA Boys Soccer Coach of the Year on Tuesday. Wegleitner is the only head coach in Laker Boys soccer history, having coached the team since their inaugural season in 1997.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by your peers and it shows the hard work that we’ve put in this season,” Wegleitner told KDLM. “It’s very humbling, but I’m very appreciative of everybody who nominated and voted me for that honor. Thank you very much.”

The Lakers won their 10th game of the season last night, beating Pelican Rapids 7-1 for their first 10+-win season since 2008. Avery Young scored four goals for the Lakers in the win. Laker Boys soccer is 10-5 this season (4-3 in the section), and will close out the regular season Thursday against Hillcrest Lutheran.
