Two Found Dead Near Detroit Lakes Ruled Murder-Suicide

LAKE VIEW TOWNSHIP (KDLM) – The Becker County Sheriff’s Office has indicated that the two individuals found deceased in a home near Detroit Lakes, Tuesday has been ruled a murder-suicide.

The individuals have been identified as Steven Stearns and Stacy Stearns, husband of wife of Detroit Lakes. According to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office, the cause of death of Stacy Stearns has been ruled as a homicide, and the cause of death of Steven Stearns ruled a suicide.

A family friend tells one media outlet that both Stacy and Steven had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and had been “making plans to go into the afterlife together” since early this summer.

The Becker County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 9:09 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at a home along County Hwy 6 east of US Hwy 59. Upon arrival, law enforcement entered the residence and discovered the bodies of Stacy and Steven Stearns along with two deceased dogs.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was contacted and responded to the scene with a crime scene team.
