LITTLE FALLS, Minn. (KFGO) – A four-year-old boy has died in an ATV crash in central Minnesota.

The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office says the crash took place Tuesday afternoon about a mile south of Buckman. The four-year-old, from Pierz, was driving the ATV with a six-year-old boy as a passenger. The child lost control on a gravel road, rolling the ATV.

The sheriff’s office says prior to the ATV rolling, the six-year-old jumped off. The four-year-old was ejected. The six-year-old was treated for minor cuts and bruises.

According to DNR regulations, the lowest legal age limit for riding an ATV on public lands is 12. Those with a parent or guardian who have permission from the owner of the vehicle can drive an ATV.

Those who are younger than 18 riding an ATV are required to wear a helmet.

The report did not say whether either boy was wearing a helmet.
