DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The National Weather Service has confirmed at least two tornadoes touched down on Friday in the Lakes Area.

The first was reported near Naytahwaush in Mahnomen County. The National Weather Service says an EF-1 tornado was on the ground for about 4 miles with peak winds of 105 miles per hour. The tornado was likely wrapped in downburst winds and heavy rain as it tracked across north Twin Lake and the community of Naytahwaush.

Trees were snapped or uprooted and the tornado tore part of a roof and decking off of a house and shingles and roofing materials off of other buildings.

The second tornado was from Rochert to Menahga. An EF-2 tornado tracked for more than 30 miles across Becker and Wadena Counties on Friday, June 24. The National Weather Service says peak wind gusts reached 115 miles per hour and the tornado was likely wrapped in damaging downburst winds.

That tornado went through Little Toad Lake, Toad Lake and Wolf Lake, ending about two miles southeast of Menahga.

Trees were violently snapped or uprooted as were several power poles; buildings, boats, docks and lifts were also damaged in the storm.
