Supreme Court Overturns Roe vs. Wade

Jun 24, 2022 | 9:36 AM

(KNSI) — The Supreme Court Friday ruled to overturn Roe v. Wade, the decades-old decision which legalized abortion nationwide.

The move now turns over power to the states to legalize or ban abortions.

The high court did so while considering a case out of Mississippi where the state attempted to ban abortion after 15 weeks. Conservative Justice Samuel Alito delivered the majority opinion.

May’s leaked draft opinion indicated that justices were ready to strike down Roe.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz says under his watch that abortion will not be banned in the state. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said he would not prosecute anyone who gets one. The state DFL issued a statement calling the ruling “a travesty of justice that will inflict tremendous suffering on countless people across America.”
