DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes Alderman at large, Madalyn Sukke announced during Tuesday’s Detroit Lakes City Council meeting that she is not planning on seeking reelection when her term expires at the end of the year.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege and a pleasure – I’m a person who loves meetings, so this job has been terrific for me – but I think after 14 years it’s time to hang it up and get some new blood on the council, so I will not be running for that open seat,” said Sukke.
Sukke is the second council member in as many months to announce plans not to seek reelection. Jamie Marks-Erickson, Alderman for Ward Two, announced in May she would not be seeking reelection in November. Ward Two encompasses residents south of Highway 10 and east of Washington Avenue, extending around the east side of Detroit Lake to Long Bridge.
Candidate filing for City Council runs from Aug. 2 to Aug. 16, 2022.
