Brothers Ethan and Mason Carrier Receive Offers To Play Football For PJ Fleck’s Gophers

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes High School’s Ethan and Mason Carrier had an unforgettable weekend.

On Saturday, the brothers were competing in the Section 8AA Track and Field finals, where they make up half of the 4×100 relay team that advanced to the state meet. The two also raced against each other in the 100m finals with Ethan taking fourth and Mason placing seventh.

On Sunday, they were in the office of University of Minnesota head football coach PJ Fleck talking about continuing their football careers at the U of M once they graduated high school.

And both brothers left with offers to become Gophers.

Both brothers have turned heads at recruiting events, prep showcases, and camps since the Laker football season ended last November.

“Is there something in the water in Detroit Lakes?” asked Prep RedZone. “I just cannot get over Ethan’s hard-nosed physicality, regardless of what side of the ball you line him up on. Mason is possibly the best linebacker in the entire state. He has the size, athleticism, and overall pedigree of a P5 linebacker. If I was recruiting NW Minnesota for a Division I school, I would for sure be making the drive from Fargo to lock in both Ethan and Mason Carrier for the long-haul.”

Both Carriers played both sides of the ball for the Lakers season, sharing time at running back, but are both expected to transition to defense for their college careers. Ethan will play defensive back, and Mason will play linebacker.

Both brothers met with Coach Fleck, along with their parents Matthew and Kelly, on Sunday where Ethan was offered a preferred walk-on spot and Mason, the #21 high school prospect in Minnesota’s Class of 2024, was offered a full-ride scholarship.

The 2022 Laker Football season begins on Friday, September 2nd with a home game against the rival Fergus Falls Otters.
