Cost of Living and Inflation could make Becker County Budgeting Process Challenging

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Becker County will begin preparing the 2023 budget this month.

Becker County Administrator, Pat Oman says this year’s budget process could be challenging, “I think the challenge for the County Board is with the cost of living and increase in inflation. We have to be very frugal with our budget and make sure we are putting together a budget that is not only appropriate for our county needs, but understanding the effect it’s having on tax payers and home owners and constituents in the county.”

The typical county budget process starts in June with Department heads reviewing potential capital improvements and state and federal legislative efforts . By November initial budgets will be submitted to the County Commission for approval and then finalized in December.

Becker County’s 2022 budget was set at $64.1 million, up from $58.9 million in 2021.
