Mallow and Knoop Qualify For Girls State Golf Tournament as Lakers Finish Third

COLD SPRING, MN (KDLM) – The Laker Girls Golf team is sending two participants down for the Class AAA State Golf Tournament after finishing third at the Section 8AAA Tournament in Cold Spring on Wednesday.

McKenna Mallow finished tied for second overall after carding a day-two 82. Hanna Knoop climbed the leaderboard, moving from a tie for fourteenth to a tie for fifth place after shooting 76.

Laura Syltie dropped from third place to put her in a tie for seventh after shooting a day-two 86. Syltie battled Brainerd’s Izzy Olson in playoff holes for the final individual State entry but lost in a five-hole playoff.

The top five golfers not on the Section Championship team advance to state, individually.

Alexandria repeated as section champions with a two-day total of 649, shooting a 311 on Wednesday and shaving 27 shots off their Day One score. Brainerd finished second with a 663, and Detroit Lakes finished third with a 670.

The State Golf Meet will be held at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids on June 14th and 15th.
