Alexandria Walks-Off Detroit Lakes In Opening Round of 8AAA Baseball Tournament

ALEXANDRIA, MN (KDLM) – The Alexandria Cardinals walked off the Detroit Lakes Lakers with a wild pitch in the opening round of the Section 8AAA tournament yesterday.

Detroit Lakes took an early 3-0 in the top of the first. Alexandria would make it a 3-2 ballgame in the bottom of the third, then would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth on a wild pitch. In the fifth, Jacob Thomas would knock in Jordan Tucker to take a 4-3 lead only to see the Cardinals tie the game on a sac fly in the bottom of the inning. Alexandria would take their first lead of the game 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth, but the Laker would tie it at 5-5 in the top of the seventh on a Kyler Johnston RBI single.

In the bottom of the inning, the Cardinals reached with an error, and an intentional walk before another wild pitch allowed the winning run to score.

The Lakers will now face Little Falls at home on Thursday at 5:00. Little Falls lost to top-seeded Willmar 10-1.
