DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Water levels on Lakes Area Lakes have risen significantly this spring.
According to Dick Hecock with the Lake Detroiters, Detroit Lake’s water level is more than a foot above the ordinary high water level (OHWL). “Since the OHWL marks the boundary between the state-owned public waters of the lake and private lakeshore property, shoreland property owners’ lakeward property lines currently extend some distance into the water,” said Hecock.
The increase in water levels since last fall’s ice-in is almost 1.5 feet, pushing the lake to its highest water level since late June of 2014.
According to Hecock the last time water levels were this high at ice-out was in 1996.
