DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The Celebrate Aging Expo Presented by Essentia Health is set to return to Detroit Lakes on Wednesday, May 18 at the Holiday Inn.
The event, which is free and runs from 9-2 p.m. will feature over 30 vendors designed for seniors 55-plus, as well as family members or friends of seniors.
One of the highlights this year will be a seminar presented by Becker County Sheriff, Todd Glander about protecting yourself from scams and fraud. Reports of financial crimes against the elderly are on the rise with seniors losing more than $1 billion each year according to the FBI, suffering an average loss of more than $34,000.
Additional seminars include a Sliver Sneakers demo with the DLCCC and tips and tricks to potting flowers with Country Fields Greenhouse.
“This event was created to be a resource for seniors along with a day of fun! Seniors and their families can gather and visit with a variety of resources all in one place. Plus, sign up to win door prizes, take in a few seminars and go home with some goodies”, said Aimee Issendorf who’s coordinating the event.
Central Market will provide complimentary coffee, cookies and muffins throughout the event and there will be a number of prize drawings including Minnesota Twins Tickets, Chanhassen Dinner Theatre Tickets, a half day pontoon rental and more.
