CLAY COUNTY, MINN. (KFGO) – A body was found floating in a slough in rural Hawley Wednesday afternoon. Deputies called to the scene found vehicle parts nearby, tracks entering the ditch, and small trees and branches knocked over.
After further investigation deputies detected what appeared to be tire rims under the water about 50 yards into the slough and Valley Water Rescue was called. They were able to confirm that a vehicle was submerged in the water.
It’s not known what time the crash occurred or if the weather was a factor. An investigation is ongoing.
The name of the victim will be released once family notifications have taken place.
