DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – In an effort to preserve local history, the City of Detroit Lakes has asked the Becker County Historical Society and Museum to design, develop and market a historic exhibit depicting 150 years of life in Detroit Lakes and to create a time capsule in conjunction with the 150th celebration of the city.
The 150th exhibit will consist of 30-35 panels and is slated to be on display beginning in late May 2021 through the end of 2021 and go back on display with the opening of the new Becker County Museum in the spring of 2022 through July 2022.
The Becker County Historical Society and Museum will purchase a composite, watertight, light weight, time capsule featuring the City of Detroit Lakes 150th logo and preservation supplies. The museum will then gather current historical items such as the local paper, current day publications such as a yearbook, pictures, etc. And may even ask the general public to share items to be included in the capsule.
After being displayed the capsule will be buried at an undetermined location within the City of Detroit Lakes.
