PARK RAPIDS, MN (KDLM)-
The Lakers traveled to Park Rapids on Tuesday night, matching up with a Section 8A opponent at the Ted O. Johnson Arena. Despite being shut down offensively by the Panther’s Freshman goaltender Sawyer Torkelson for roughly 50 minutes, the Lakers found the back of the net to win 1-0. Detroit Lakes outshot Park Rapids 42-15 in the winning effort and moved their record to 5-3 on the season. Detroit Lakes found the back of the net at the 15:29 mark of the third period as Sophomore Cole Larson scored his first career goal, Jordan Fields picked up the assist. Park Rapids frustrated the Lakers by playing strong defensively. The Panthers even had a few chances to take the lead in the 3rd period, but DL goalie Jack Hines recorded his first shutout of the season. With the loss, Park Rapids falls to 3-4 on the season. The Lakers will return to action on Friday night when they travel to Fergus Falls to take on the 5-1 Otters. Friday night’s faceoff will be at 7:15 pm on KDLM.

Boys Basketball: The Lakers improved their record to 5-2 on the season with a win against Fergus Falls on Tuesday night at the Ralph Anderson Gymnasium, beating the Otters 53-44. Nate Cihak led the way in scoring for Detroit Lakes as he finished the night with 19 points. Senior Zach Oistad dominated the glass as he had 17 rebounds. The Lakers will travel to Staples-Motley on Thursday night to take on the 1-8 Cardinals.
Girls Basketball: Detroit Lakes traveled to Moorhead and took a loss to the Spuds 64-50. The loss drops DL back to .500 on the season as they move their record to 4-4. The Lakers will be back at it on Friday when they travel to Staples-Motley.
Girls Hockey: The Lakers hosted East Grand Forks and fell against the Green Wave 5-1 on their home ice. The Lakers fall to 4-3 on the season and are now 1-2 in Section 8A games. Detroit Lakes will return to the ice on Saturday when they host the Otters of Fergus Falls.
Wrestling: The Lakers swept the competition on Tuesday night at the Perham High School. The Lakers defeated Moorhead 60-13 and beat Perham 43-33. The Laker wrestling team is now 14-2 on the season and is ranked #11 in the state.
Boys Swim/Dive: The Lakers fell to Perham 98-73 at the DLCCC on Tuesday night. They will return to the pool on February 16th when they host Moorhead.
Gymnastics: Detroit Lakes put up a score of 127 on Tuesday night, but it wasn’t enough as they lost to Alexandria 138-127. The Lakers will compete again on Thursday when they travel to Perham.
