Detroit Lakes Man Charged for Assaulting High School Referee

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – A Detroit Lakes man has been charged in Becker County District Court for assaulting a referee at a Lake Park-Audubon basketball game.

Phillip Shawn Lokken, 45, is said to have thrown a bag of popcorn at a referee on Jan. 13, 2022 during a high school basketball game between Lake Park-Audubon and Win-E-Mac. The referee ejected Lokken, at which point Lokken flipped off the referee, entered the court and grabbed the referee’s whistle and shirt.

Lokken is charged with misdemeanor fifth-degree assault and misdemeanor disorderly conduct and has been ordered to attend a remote arraignment April 28.
