Lakers Beat Crosby-Ironton on Senior Night, Await Playoff Seeding

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Laker basketball won their regular-season finale, beating the Crosby-Ironton Rangers at the Lakeshirts Fieldhouse 82-66.

On Senior Night, head coach Brett Maass started five of his six seniors: Nate Cihak, Nate Mohr, Carson Rogstad, Chris Breeden, and Christian Solberg (Caeden Yliniemi missed the game due to an ankle injury suffered against Park Rapids on Tuesday night). Rogstad won the opening tip against the 6’3 Ranger center Will Meyers, and Mohr scored the first points of the night for the Lakers to fuel an 18-4 Laker run to start the game.

“That’s about as good as it can get right there,” said Maass after the game. “They deserved it. I told them in the l0cker room before the game that they’ve all worked hard all year, they haven’t taken any shortcuts. And when you do that, good things happen.”

The Rangers would close the gap to 38-34 at the half, and eventually narrow the deficit to 64-63 with seven minutes left in the game, but the Lakers would close out the game on an 18-3 run.

Mason Carrier led the Lakers with 23 points in the game on a night that saw four Lakers in double figures. Cihak finished with 16, Breeden scored 13 and Devon Berg scored 10 points off the bench.

Carsen Turk led the Rangers with 23 points.

Up next for the Lakers: playoff seeding for the Section 8AAA tournament, which begins on Tuesday. After a 1-7 start, the Lakers won ten of their last sixteen games to finish 11-14. The Lakers finished 0-5 against section opponents. Seeding for the tournament will be released on Saturday.
