Lakes Area Home & Sport Show Returning After Two Year Hiatus

Mar 2, 2022 | 12:16 PM

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – After being cancelled for the last two years due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Lakes Area Home & Sport Show is preparing to host their 34th show at the Kent Freeman Arena in Detroit Lakes.

The show scheduled for Saturday, March 19 and Sunday, March 20 will feature close to 100 homebuilder and outdoor recreation businesses and organizations in the Lakes Area. “You can see your local home and sports pros all in one spot, arena B is filled with home building, remodeling and maintenance vendors to help you find ideas, inspiration and expert advice for your spring projects,” says Carmen McCullough with the Lake Region Builders Association.

“In arena A you’ll be able to get ready for summer fun on the lake. We’ve got people who can help you out with boats, docks, campers, ATVs and more.”

One of the bigger building trends in the last several years McCullough says is making your home spaces more multi-functional, “People have been remodeling to make home offices or home gyms and if you haven’t done that and want to you’ll be able to meet with contractors at the show to help you get started on those projects.”

Outdoor recreation has also become more popular since the Pandemic first began, with industry experts now predicting that interest in being outside will continue long after the Pandemic. Gardening, especially has seen a rapid rise in popularity – this year’s Lakes Area Home & Sport Show will feature gardening seminars both days at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Admission for the event is $5 per person and free for those under 18. A portion of the proceeds are donated back to the Becker County Food Pantry. Additionally concession will be available from the local Masons, prize drawings and a silent auction, which has also been a popular part of the event over the years helping to provide scholarships to those going into the building trades.

This year’s show sponsors include Laney’s at the Lake, Karvonens and Detroit Lakes Public Utilities. For more information on the show including how to volunteer at the show visit lakeregionbuilders.com
