DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Another round of blizzard conditions will hit the Lakes Area, Friday.
The National Weather Service says snow will push through the area Thursday night with gusty southeasterly winds, which could create whiteout conditions. Winds Friday will pick up significantly, creating blizzard conditions across most of the area. These conditions will last into the late afternoon before improving in the evening.
Wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph creating slippery road conditions and widespread blowing snow significantly reducing visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning or evening commute. Additionally, cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.
A number of businesses and schools have opted to delay opening or close, Friday. A full list is available here.
