BEMIDJI, MN (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes girls basketball team earned their fifth win on Monday night, beating Bemidji 58-46.

Detroit Lakes came out strong from the opening tip-off as they went on a 9-0 run to begin the game. Bemidji then answered back with their run to tie the game and eventually take the lead. Bemidji led at halftime 28-25.

The Lakers went on a run at the midway point of the second half and retook the lead, a lead which they never surrendered. Detroit Lakes outscored Bemidji in the second half 33-18.

DL was led in scoring by sophomore Helena Daggett, who finished the game with 19 points. Laker junior Jacee Hauser finished with a double-double scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. Defensively the Laker held Bemidji’s Jackie Johnson to 20 points. Johnson scored 40 points against Detroit Lakes in the first meeting between the teams.

The Lakers improve their record to 5-9 overall, and because Bemidji is a 4A school, they will likely gain some valuable QRF points with the win. QRF is the formula that determines seeding for the playoffs.

The loss drops Bemidji’s record to 5-9 on the season.

Next up, the Lakers will play at Crosby-Ironton on Thursday for another Midstate Conference game. The Rangers enter Thursday’s game at 11-6. Thursday’s game is scheduled for 7:15 pm.

Girls Hockey: The Laker girls hockey team fell on the road at Crookston on Monday night 10-0. The loss drops DL’s record to 4-18 overall, and they are now 2-4 in Section 8A. The Lakers will return home on Thursday when they host East Grand Forks. Thursday’s game can be heard on KDLM, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 pm.

Boys Hockey: The Laker boys hockey team dominated Wahpeton/Breckenridge on Monday night, beating the Blades 10-0. The Lakers have improved their record to 14-4 and have won five straight. The Lakers went 5-1 in January. Detroit Lakes will return to the ice on Thursday when they take on Wadena for a 7:00 pm game.
