PERHAM, MN (KDLM/KPRW) – The individual Class A Cross Country Champion is staying in-state to run for Sarah Hopkins at the University of Minnesota.
Perham senior Jakob McCleary, who took first place at the 2021 Class A State Cross Country Meet on November 6th, is committed to join a Minnesota team that just finished its season at the NCAA DI Championship in Tallahassee, Florida.
“The University of Minnesota is a big one on my list,” McCleary told the KDLM Sports Wrap at the end of September. “Home state, great campus.”

McCleary is the second area standout in two years to join Hopkins’ team at the U, joining Staples-Motley alum Emmet Anderson, who just finished his redshirt freshman season.
