Highway 87 on Schedule to Reopen Between Frazee and Evergreen by Mid-October

Oct 1, 2021 | 11:43 AM

FRAZEE (KDLM) – Paving & overall construction is beginning to wrap up on Hwy 87.

Paving continues between Frazee and Evergreen and is expected to be done late next week! From there, crews will continue shouldering (meaning they’ll tie the road surface into the gravel surface along the shoulder), install new signs and complete final striping. As long as the weather cooperates throughout the next two weeks, the project is on-schedule to reopen Highway 87 by mid-October!

The bridge over the Otter Tail River is just about ready to reopen too. Crews will install guardrail next week. Until then, Highway 87 remains impassable at the bridge site, between North River Drive and Main Avenue East. Please continue to use an alternate route.

For those who live, work or travel in Frazee, you’ll encounter an additional closure on Highway 87 starting Monday, Oct. 11 through Friday, Oct. 15. The road will be impassable at the railroad crossing in Frazee. Traffic will be detoured to Juniper Avenue West/County Road 10, Fifth Street Northwest and Main Avenue West.

During the short-term closure, railroad crews will replace the existing crossing with wider panels. This will ensure the crossing can accommodate the future trail and sidewalk that will be installed next year as part of the 2022 Highway 87 reconstruction project in the City of Frazee.
