Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) –
Emmet Anderson, a four-time all-state Cross Country honoree while running for the Staples-Motley Cardinals, competed for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers in his first-ever collegiate race, finishing third at the St. Olaf Invitational on Saturday.
The redshirt freshman ran unattached and finished with a time of 25:39 in the 8K race and only nine seconds behind first-place finisher Andrew Stumbo of Gustavus Adolphus.
“I thought Emmet was awesome,” said Gophers cross country coach Sarah Hopkins. “That was one of the best 8k debuts I’ve ever seen, he absolutely killed it. For a high school kid who has never ran an 8k before, that was impressive and pretty cool to watch.”
Anderson and the Gophers will return home as they prepare to host the 35th Annual Roy Griak Invitational at Les Bolstad Golf Course on Friday, Sept. 24.
