Abdullahi opens his gifts presented by Sheriff Todd Glander
DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – A Lakes Area child battling Kidney Cancer received a special delivery from the Becker County Sheriff, Tuesday.
Sheriff Todd Glander surprised 3-year-old Abdullahi at his home in Detroit Lakes to help deliver an iPad and accessories. The surprise was part of Minnesota non-profit, Wishes & More that helps grant heart-felt wishes to children with terminal and life-threatening conditions.
Since being diagnosed with kidney cancer, Abdullahi has been improving with intense therapy, but to catch up, he was in need of more tools and fun at his disposal. When Wishes & More spoke with his mother about a wish for her young son, she wished for an iPad on his behalf to assist in his therapy. She shared that his therapists have shown her apps on her phone that allow him to work on fine motor and other developmental skills with therapeutic & learning games; as well as fun games and videos.
Wishes & More gathered the iPad and accessories to complete his wish and delivered them Tuesday along with a $2,000 scholarship of Hope.
“Wishes & More is a very special hometown charity, and we are proud to partner with the Becker County Sheriff’s Department to grant Abdullahi’s wish with flair! Our hope is that this wish will provide him with the opportunity to grow in his development, and we are grateful for the community support of our donors and supporters who joined together to make it happen. Special thanks to Sheriff Glander for joining forces with our charity to make this wish extra memorable for this sweet boy,” said Wishes & More Volunteer President, Karla Blomberg.
