I’ve seen a lot of Republicans disappointed in Garth Brooks for performing at Joe Biden’s inauguration yesterday. I am a little disappointed too…for entirely different reasons.
Garth Brooks did an admirable thing yesterday: crossing the aisle to support the President of the United States despite not having the same political views as him or the administration he has brought in. But, Garth put America first and had an absolute knock-out performance of Amazing Grace:
Amazing Grace was a good song choice for the moment…but it wasn’t the greatest.
Imagine the healing…the comradery…the forgiveness…the bonding that would have happened it Garth had played one of the most unifying songs of all-time:
The lyrics would have been perfect for the moment! ‘Blame it all on my roots. I showed up in boots and ruined your black-tie affair.’ or ‘I was the last one you thought you’d see there.’ Let’s put our differences aside and have a beer together! So many of America’s problems could be solved so much quicker if we would take a step back and blare Garth Brooks more often.
