ERHARD (KDLM) – A rural mail carrier has been awarded Letter of Commendation after saving a man from an overturned lawn mower.
Justin Tellinghuisen, rushed to the aid of a 70-year-old rural Erhard man on June 19, who was mowing a ditch when his lawnmower overturned and trapped him under the mower.
The lawnmower started the dry grass on fire as well as the lawnmower and the man’s clothes. Tellinghuisen rushed to the man’s aid, removing the man’s burning clothes and assisted him up the ditch and onto the tailgate of his vehicle, calling 911. The man was eventually transported to the hospital.
“Because of Justin’s quick actions, the man is able to recover at home. Had Justin not been there to help, the outcome would, most likely, have been much worse,” said Sheriff Barry Fitzgibbons.
