Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – Carson Wentz will start at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night against the Buffalo Bills. Head coach Kevin O’Connell announced the move Thursday, with Kyler Murray now considered week-to-week with a hamstring strain.
Murray hurt his hamstring late in last Sunday’s 19-15 loss at Detroit, the Vikings’ first defeat of the season. The 29-year-old went 17-of-29 for 210 yards in that game, with two touchdowns and one interception. O’Connell said Monday that if Murray missed the Bills game, it would be because of the injury and not his performance.
This is the second time an injury to Murray has opened the door for Wentz this season. Wentz replaced Murray in the opener against Green Bay and threw three touchdown passes in a 39-22 win after Murray suffered a concussion. He then started the following week and completed 11 of 20 passes for 143 yards in a 9-3 win at Chicago.
Through those two games, Wentz has completed 59% of his passes for 276 yards, with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
The Vikings and Bills both come in at 6-1. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. at U.S. Bank Stadium.
