Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins let a late comeback slip away Thursday night, falling 5-4 to the Los Angeles Angels in 10 innings in Anaheim.
Wade Meckler lined the first pitch he saw from Twins reliever Kody Funderburk into right field, scoring Zach Neto with the winning run. It was Meckler’s first career walk-off hit.
The Angels jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles from Moises Ballesteros, Denzer Guzman and Oswald Peraza.
Minnesota chipped away with a Brooks Lee sacrifice fly in the eighth, then tied it with two outs in the ninth when Walker Jenkins hit a two-run homer to center field. The blast helped Jenkins snap out of a 1-for-34 slump; he finished with three hits.
The Twins took their first lead of the night in the 10th on an RBI single from Lee, but stranded the bases loaded when Royce Lewis struck out.
Mike Trout tied the game in the bottom half with an RBI single off Yoendrys Gomez. Gomez (2-4) was charged with the loss after allowing two runs, one of them earned, on one hit and a walk in one-third of an inning.
Minnesota (71-82) has dropped four of its last five. The four-game series continues tonight in Anaheim.
