Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins are on pace for their lowest average home attendance in more than 25 years, not counting the seasons affected by COVID-19.

The team announced a crowd of 17,676 for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians at Target Field. That was the second-smallest Sunday home crowd of the season. The only Sunday home game with fewer fans was April 5th, which was played in chilly temperatures.

Through 75 home games, the Twins have drawn 1,585,295 fans, an average of about 21,137 per game.

Outside of the pandemic seasons, the last time Minnesota averaged fewer fans was in 2000, a decade before Target Field opened. That year, the Twins averaged 12,355 fans per game at the Metrodome while going 69-93. The losing record earned the team the first overall pick in the 2001 draft, which it used to select St. Paul native Joe Mauer.
