Vikings Receiver Jones Suspended Three Games

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Vikings will start the season without one of their young receivers.

The NFL suspended wide receiver Jeshaun Jones three games without pay Tuesday for violating the league’s substances of abuse policy. The league did not disclose what substance was involved. Jones’ suspension begins Sunday, August 30th, and he is eligible for reinstatement Monday, September 28th, the final day of Week 3.

He can still play in Minnesota’s preseason finale Friday at Denver. Jones signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Maryland, where he had 2,040 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns over a six-year career.

He spent both of his pro seasons on the practice squad and has one career appearance, the 2025 regular-season finale, when he handled two punt returns for five yards.

The suspension lands with Jones already on the roster bubble. Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and Jauan Jennings are locked into the top of the receiver depth chart, and the Vikings make their final cuts Sunday.

In a separate move Tuesday, the Vikings signed cornerback Tre Hawkins III and waived cornerback Dwight McGlothern Jr. with an injury designation. Hawkins was a sixth-round pick by the New York Giants in 2023 and played in 20 games over his first two seasons. He signed with the Washington Commanders’ practice squad last November and appeared in one game on special teams. He has 45 total tackles, three passes defended and one interception in three seasons.

McGlothern made the roster in each of his two seasons after signing as an undrafted rookie in 2024, playing in 15 games with 50 defensive snaps.
