Twins Complete Sweep of Braves, Move Into Wild Card Position

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins finished off a three-game sweep of the Atlanta Braves with a 6-4 win Wednesday afternoon at Target Field, taking a series from the National League East leaders and pushing themselves back into the American League playoff picture.

Kody Clemens drove in three runs to lead the offense. He finished two for four, including a seventh-inning single that scored the go-ahead run. The Twins scored a single run in the third, then broke it open with three more in the fifth. Kaelen Culpepper and Luke Keaschall opened the rally with one-out singles, Byron Buxton walked to load the bases, and Josh Bell drew a full-count walk to bring Culpepper home. Clemens followed with a two-run double off the right-field wall to make it 4-1.Atlanta answered with three runs in the sixth to tie it.

Bell started the deciding rally in the seventh with a one-out double to center, and Clemens singled him in. Brooks Lee added an insurance run with a two-out single. Starter Taj Bradley allowed one run on two hits over five innings, walking three and striking out seven. A.J. Minter picked up the win in relief against his former team, and Yoendrys Gomez closed it out with a perfect ninth for his 20th save. The win moved Minnesota to 63-65 and into a tie for the final AL wild card spot.

It was the club’s first series sweep since taking four straight at Texas in mid-June.

The Twins are idle today before opening a three-game interleague series at San Diego on Friday.
