Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins nearly erased a six-run deficit over the final two innings Sunday, but the Seattle Mariners walked off with a 7-6 win at T-Mobile Park.
Minnesota was held scoreless through seven innings by Seattle starter George Kirby, who scattered five hits and a walk while striking out three. The Twins finally broke through with a five-run eighth against the Mariners bullpen, getting a three-run homer from Royce Lewis and a two-run shot from Trevor Larnach.
Luke Keaschall tied the game in the ninth with a solo home run off Seattle closer Andrés Muñoz, who took a 6-5 lead into the inning and gave it back. Seattle pushed across the winning run in the bottom half against Yoendrys Gómez, who took the loss. Muñoz picked up the win.
Lewis, Larnach and Keaschall each finished with two hits. Josh Bell added two hits and a double for the Twins, who totaled 11 hits in the loss.
Twins starter Taj Bradley worked six innings and gave up three runs on seven hits, walking four and striking out two. Seattle broke it open with three runs in the seventh.
Cole Young led the Mariners with four hits, and Cal Raleigh homered and drove in three runs. Josh Naylor added two RBIs as Seattle finished with 14 hits.
The loss was Minnesota’s second straight after the Twins took the series opener Friday. They dropped two of three in Seattle and now head to Kansas City for a three-game set with the Royals that opens Tuesday, August 4th, at 6:40 p.m.
