Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins walked off with a 6-5 win over the Cleveland Guardians Wednesday night at Target Field, extending their winning streak to four games.
Alan Roden delivered the game-winning hit with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, lining a single to right-center to score Royce Lewis. The moment capped a big night for Roden, who was making his season debut after being called up from Triple-A Saint Paul a day earlier. He finished two for five with two RBIs, also driving in a run earlier in the game to help the Twins battle back from an early deficit.
Cleveland struck first, scoring three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Chase DeLauter led off with a single, and Brayan Rocchio followed two pitches later with a two-run home run that traveled 401 feet. Rhys Hoskins added a solo shot two batters later to make it 3-0.
The Twins answered right away, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game.
Cleveland regained the lead before Minnesota tied it again in the seventh inning, when Guardians reliever Erik Sabrowski walked in two runs with the bases loaded to even the score at 5-5 and set up Roden’s late heroics.
Kody Clemens went three for four with a double and an RBI, and Brooks Lee added two hits and two RBIs for Minnesota. Yoendrys Gómez pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first win of the season. Matt Festa took the loss for Cleveland.
The win was Minnesota’s fourth in a row and fifth in its last six games. The Twins improved to 46-47 on the season, two games behind first-place Chicago in the American League Central. Cleveland fell to 47-46.
The two teams wrap up their series this afternoon at Target Field, with first pitch set for 12:40 p.m. Minnesota is going for the sweep. Right-hander Bailey Ober is scheduled to return from the injured list for the Twins, facing Cleveland’s Gavin Williams.
