Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Wild’s season is over after one of the most painful losses in recent memory.
Minnesota led the Colorado Avalanche by two goals with under four minutes left in regulation Wednesday night at Ball Arena, only to watch the lead disappear in a 4-3 overtime loss that ended their playoff run.
Nick Foligno scored twice for the Wild, and Marcus Johansson added a goal in the losing effort. The Avalanche struck twice in the final four minutes of the third period to force overtime, then put Minnesota away in the fourth minute of the extra frame.
The loss ended the best-of-seven Western Conference Semifinal series 4-1 in favor of Colorado, sending the Avalanche to the Conference Finals.
It marks another early playoff exit for a Wild team that entered the postseason with high expectations after a strong regular season.
