Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Timberwolves were brought back down to Earth Wednesday night, falling 133-95 to the San Antonio Spurs in Game Two of the Western Conference Semifinals at Frost Bank Center.
The 38-point defeat is the worst playoff loss in Timberwolves franchise history. Minnesota trailed by as many as 47 points and never seriously threatened a comeback.
Five different Wolves players reached double figures, but none scored more than 12 points. Anthony Edwards, still working back from a bone bruise and hyperextended knee, came off the bench and finished with 12 points on 5-of-13 shooting with four turnovers. Guard Ayo Dosunmu returned from a calf injury but left in the second half with a sore heel.
Minnesota shot under 40 percent from the field and committed 22 turnovers. The Wolves were outscored in the paint and from beyond the arc, and lost the turnover battle by seven.
San Antonio was led by Stephon Castle’s 21 points. Victor Wembanyama added 19 points and 15 rebounds, while De’Aaron Fox chipped in 16. The Spurs shot 50 percent from the field and 41 percent from three-point range. It was San Antonio’s highest-scoring playoff game since 1983.
The best-of-seven series is tied at one game apiece. Game Three is Friday night at Target Center in Minneapolis, where the Wolves are 3-0 this postseason. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. on Prime Video.
