Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Wild surrendered four unanswered goals in the third period and dropped Game One of the Western Conference Semifinals 9-6 to the top-seeded Colorado Avalanche Sunday night at Ball Arena.

The two clubs traded blows through 40 minutes and entered the second intermission knotted at five, but Colorado seized control with a pair of goals in the first six minutes of the third period to take a lead it would not relinquish.

Marcus Johansson, Vladimir Tarasenko, Ryan Hartman, Marcus Foligno, Quinn Hughes, and Mats Zuccarello all found the back of the net for Minnesota in the losing effort. Despite the six-goal output, the Wild could not slow an Avalanche attack that poured 9 goals on the scoreboard.

The loss puts Minnesota in an early hole in the best-of-seven series. The 3rd-seeded Wild advanced to the second round by knocking off the Dallas Stars in six games, while top-seeded Colorado swept the Los Angeles Kings in four to open the playoffs.

Game Two is set for Tuesday night in Denver, with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The series shifts to Saint Paul for Game Three on Saturday at Grand Casino Arena.
