Construction is set to get underway on major improvements at City Beach and West Lake Drive, with work beginning the week of April 13.
According to project officials, crews from Hough Incorporated will start by removing the existing beach walk. During this phase, the entire beach area will be closed to the public. The closure will allow for demolition of the current walkway and construction of a new beach walk, along with updated plaza space on the lake side.
Contractors will also begin Phase One of the West Lake Drive project. Work will take place between Minnesota Avenue and Washington Avenue and will include removing the current road surface and installing dewatering wells in preparation for a new water main.
That section of West Lake Drive will be closed to traffic during construction, which is expected to continue through June. Detour routes and directional signage for local businesses will be in place.
Officials remind residents to plan ahead for closures and use posted detours while the project is underway.
