Local Clinic Offers Mammograms, Opens Sports Physical Appointments

Essentia Health is offering two opportunities this month to help community members stay on top of their health.

Walk-in mammograms will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, at Essentia Health St. Mary’s in Detroit Lakes, located at 1027 Washington Avenue. No appointment is needed, and patients do not have to be part of Essentia’s system to take advantage of the screening.

Most insurance plans cover yearly mammograms without a deductible, though patients are encouraged to check with their provider for specific coverage details. In addition to the screening, those who attend will also receive a sweet treat.

Essentia Health is also encouraging families to get a head start on scheduling sports physicals for student-athletes. Appointments are now available for students from middle school through college and will be valid for the upcoming school year.

Officials say scheduling physicals in the spring can help families avoid the busy summer and fall rush. In Minnesota, sports physicals are valid for three years, while timelines differ slightly in neighboring states.

“A sports physical is a great way to identify any underlying health concerns before a new season begins,” said Dr. Tanya Diegel, a family medicine physician with Essentia Health. “Being proactive helps keep young athletes safe.”
